Seirin's first major challenge arrives in a practice match against Ryota Kise, who initially overwhelms the team by replicating Kagami's techniques. Kuroko utilizes his unique skills to secure a narrow victory. Later, during the Interhigh preliminaries, Seirin faces Shutoku High, where Shintaro Midorima's shooting and Takao Kazunari's 'Hawk Eyes' neutralize Kuroko's misdirection. Despite this, Seirin prevails until suffering a crushing defeat against Touhou Academy led by Daiki Aomine. Following the arrival of founding member Kiyoshi Teppei and intensive summer training, Seirin enters the Winter Cup. They defeat Kirisaki Daichi High despite captain Makoto Hanamiya's ruthless tactics. In a historic rematch against Touhou, Kuroko develops his 'Vanishing Drive,' helping Kagami surpass Aomine and securing Aomine's first-ever loss. Against Yōsen High, Kagami unlocks the Zone to overcome Atsushi Murasakibara's defense. Finally, in the Winter Cup finals, Kuroko perfects his 'Phantom Shot' while acting as a gatekeeper for Kagami, who enters the 'true Zone.' Together they dismantle Rakuzan High, led by Seijuro Akashi's 'Emperor Eye,' securing the championship.
